True Light History
Marshall Area Christian School was founded in 1987 as an independent, non-denominational Christian school. Its first classes began in the fall of 1988 with one full-time teacher, countless committed volunteers, and a total of 18 students in grades 1-4. Today True Light Christian School employs 19 staff members and serves 118 students in preschool through 8th grade. Families at True Light Christian School represent 13 different Christian churches from Marshall and the surrounding communities. To God be the glory!
The first location was at Calvary Baptist (now Radiant Life) at 500 S. Saratoga for three years until growth required a move to the Assembly of God at 711 N. Bruce. Three more years produced enough students to require the junior high and high school to move to Grace Life Church at 305 Camden Drive. Finally, in the Fall of 2006, the school was invited by Grace Life Church to jointly occupy their present location at 601 E. College Drive when Grace Life was awarded the East Side Campus by the school district’s Blue Ribbon Task Force.
Other significant changes over the years include the following:
- 1993 – Addition of a half-day kindergarten
- 1995 – Kindergarten-12th grade classes offered
- 2000 – Kindergarten – 8th grade classes offered
- 2006 – New location at the East Side Campus
- 2008 – First Promise Banquet Fundraiser
- 2010 – Preschool classes added
- 2016 – Name changed to True Light Christian School
Author’s note: The above history includes only numbers, dates, and locations. The true story is in the lives of the people who, depending on God, sacrificially gave of their time, money, and families; believing that a Christian school was an essential part of the command they had received to train up their children in the way they should go.
